I Know Who I Am: The Generational Curse Breaker
Updated: Mar 25, 2022
I love how God can use anything to get a word of affirmation to me. As I was watching Disney's Moana for the one hundredth time, I was deeply moved by a sequence of song lyrics as they played out.
A portion of the lyrics to "Know Who You Are" say:
I have crossed the horizon to find you
I know your name
They have stolen the heart from inside you
But this does not define you
This is not who you are
You know who you are
This translated in my heart as:
Sometimes people will look at the exterior and try to place labels on you or put you in a box according to who 'they think' you are. They will attempt to create their own narrative with no desire to uncover the truth about who you truly are. It took me 30 years of trial and error to discover and accept who I am. At one point in my life, I allowed people to steal the heart from inside me. It turned me into my own version of Te Ka, but like the lyrics state, that does not define me because that's not who I am.
So, I see you. I see you when they try to say you're bitter, but really you're fed up with the false narratives. I see you when they try to say you're lazy, but you're really tired of carrying the load alone. I see you when they try to say you've let yourself go, but really you're fighting anxiety and depression. I see you when they try to say you're aggressive and threatening, when really you're only being direct or standing up for yourself after they've repeatedly tried to tear you down.
I see you, just as I did, transitioned into Te Ka in an attempt to protect yourself but you were created to be Te Fiti.
Then it transitions into "I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)" whose lyrics state:
Sometimes, the world seems against you
The journey may leave a scar
But scars can heal and reveal just
Where you are
The people you love will change you
The things you have learned will guide you
And nothing on Earth can silence
The quiet voice still inside you
And when that voice starts to whisper
"Moana, you've come so far"
"Moana, listen"
"Do you know who you are?"
Then Moana goes into a monologue. My heart heard:
The things you've gone through may have hurt you, but you have grown from it, learned from it, and you've overcome them and healed. Those experiences will guide you as you truly walk in your purpose. Nothing can stop the promise in your heart and the call on your life. Listen to that quiet voice inside you, that's Gods spirit speaking saying, "Sheleana, you've come so far" "Sheleana, listen" "YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!"...and I do.
I was purposed to break the curse of poverty off my bloodline. I am the PROMISE and the LEGACY will be fulfilled through me. I was chosen to create the blueprint and lay the foundation of generational love and wealth. My past experiences have transformed me into the powerhouse that I am today and God will lead me to the prosperity that leaves an inheritance for my children's children.
I am Sheleana and I am the generational curse breaker in my family.
